I left work at 1:30 today to take Dad to the eye doctor. I thought he had some minor surgery scheduled for his eye, but it turned out to be his pre-op appointment. When we got in the car he asked, "Where are we going?" I told him to the eye doctor. He asked why. I told him the doctor needed to check his eye. He asked "Which one?" I pointed to his right eye and he said, "the right one". Then he said, "Lordy, Lordy, Land Lordy", which is a saying he says. When we got in the doctor's office, he asked, "Where are we?" several times. Once when I told him we were at the eye doctor and he was going to check his eye, Dad looked at me and winked his eyes alternately several times and then laughed. He said, "What is it about my eye?" Then he counted people in the waiting room over and over. There were six. Once he looked over and asked me when I got married and who I married. Then he said, "We had married....." he trailed off and fell asleep mid sentence. He did great in the examination room. He counted things and then slept while I gave his medical history. Then we waited to get the appointment for surgery. He read through the books of the Bible twice and then fell asleep again. After we got home, we both laid down for a rest. He has gotten up at 4:30 the past two mornings several times each morning and I haven't been able to go back to sleep. He also hasn't wanted to get up at 6:45 when I get him up so both mornings I got him changed and dressed and he got back in the bed. Then Van got him up and took him to LifeCare. I've got to get his supper ready....... Susie

Aww, the pre-op. How funny that he winked his eyes alternately, and I can totally see him saying, "what is it about my eye?"!!! Well good luck at the actual appointment, I hope it goes well. No wonder he tries to sleep alot at LifeCare, if he is getting up so early. Maybe we can encourage him or engage him in to keep him awake a little more.
